Freshman Blake Morasch has been skiing since the mere age of two. With the support of his family, he continues to take on his skiing passion. “I love skiing because it’s kind of a lifestyle for me,” Morasch said. “Some people like cars, I like skiing.”
Bluewood, Silver Mountain, Mount Bachelor, White Pass, Schweitzer Mountain and Mount Spokane are only a few of the places he skis. He skis every weekend and any chance he can.
Last year he participated in the United States of America Snowboarding Association (USASA) nationals at Copper Mountain in Colorado. “Last year I scored 28th place and this year I’m hoping to score somewhere around 13th,” Morasch said.
Morasch skis with his family but he also enjoys skiing with close friends. His skier cross team, “The Woo Crew,” consists of seniors Justin Hutcherson and Dylan Smith and freshman Drew Bateman. They call themselves the “Woo Crew” because “every time we see each other we let
out a really loud woo,” Morasch said.
“I like to ski the light and fluffy snow really fast and jump off the cliffs and log jumps,” Morasch said. “I also like doing switch outs on rails.”
When skiing one needs water, ski boots, under layers to keep warm, a weather resistant layer above that and a good pair of gloves. “I like keeping something small like a snickers bar in my pocket for a jump start,” Morasch said.
Other than skiing, Morasch enjoys working at his dad’s office doing odds and ends projects, watching movies, water skiing, boating in the summer and playing tennis.
